This situation raises some obvious and pressing questions about discussions of validity: can and should they be modern or postmodern, or can they be both at the same time? This chapter suggests that, although there is no absolute requirement to turn away from modernist, and towards postmodernist psychology, we do need to appreciate and utilise the benefits of destabilising and disrupting unhelpful or worn out categories and dichotomies.
