In country after country, new congregations with an Anabaptist polity are being founded and are flourishing. At the same time, congregations from other church traditions, under the pressures of post-Christendom, are increasingly functioning like believers churches. The spread of the intentional church is symbolized by the increasing practice, by Christians in many traditions, of believers baptism. But what is a believers church? Upon what theology is a believers church based? And how is a believers church structured?

The Anabaptists began to consider the community of faith as their primary community the one that took priority in their lives. They realized that no one else would be there for them if the church was not. This awareness further shaped their understanding of church.
